As Managing Director of Arenas for the NEC Group, Guy’s role sees him leading two of the UK’s leading live entertainment venues, Resorts World Arena and Utilita Arena Birmingham.
Guy has worked at the NEC Group for over 20 years, starting as an Assistant Event Manager and working his way up to General Manager - a position he held for 11 years before being promoted to Director in December 2018.
Guy’s career highlights to date include leading the multi million pound redevelopments of both Arenas and securing a number of high-profile events for both venues. Guy was instrumental in securing ‘Horse of the Year Show’, which has since been held at Resorts World Arena for the last 18 years.
Other event highlights include delivering the last ever Black Sabbath concert in their home city, hosting ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ three times and hosting a number of internationally renowned sporting events such as World Indoor Athletics, the Davis Cup and World Badminton Championships.
Guy is a member of the National Arenas Association (NAA) steering group, having Chaired the Association from 2013-2015. He was responsible for implementing the NAA’s Safety Advisory Group and was responsible for training courses in emergency planning, crisis management and disability awareness. Guy was also a founding member of the International Association of Venue Management Europe (IAVM).
Outside of work, Guy is married with two teenage children. He loves spending time with his family, travelling and completing sporting challenges including 2 marathons, the 100 mile Midlands Velo cycling event and the National 3 Three Peaks. He is also a season ticket holder at Aston Villa FC, a keen follower of cricket, golf and has a passion for National Hunt Horse Racing.
