Borja Gonzalez Bilbao is Stadium Business Manager at Athletic Club, established in 1898 and owned by its members ever since. It is one of the founding Clubs of LaLiga with the peculiarity of competing solely with players from the Basque region of Spain.
After 100 years, Athletic Club left its old stadium, San Mamés, and moved into a new one built on the site of the original stadium; the new San Mamés (also known as Nuevo San Mamés or San Mames Barria). With a capacity of 53,289 seats, the new San Mamés is the eighth-largest stadium in Spain and the largest in the Basque Country.
Experienced in marketing and business development, Borja Gonzalez Bilbao has worked on developing the business of San Mames since 2014. He manages ticketing, food and beverage, hospitality, the museum, restaurants, events and more. Basically everything that can enhance the fan experience and increase revenue.
San Mames has hosted many marquee events, such as the European Rugby Champions Cup Final 2018 and the MTV European Music Awards.
The stadium won the 'Best Sports Building in the World' award in 2015 and was 'Venue of the Year 2017' at WFS (World Football Summit). It will also be a host venue for UEFA EURO 2020, which will now take place in 2021.
